Welcome is launching an ambitious new global strategy to address urgent health challenges, with a particular focus on mental health, infectious diseases, and the health impacts of global heating. Young people are disproportionately affected by these issues and will bear their consequences for longer. As such, they are not only key beneficiaries of Wellcome’s strategy but also essential partners in achieving its impact.
Our Approach
In collaboration with partners from India and the USA, we applied a Human-Centered Design (HCD) approach to ensure that human perspectives are integrated into every stage of the problem-solving process. This method emphasizes understanding challenges from the point of view of those most affected—exploring how they experience these issues in their unique environments and contexts.
To gain these insights, we conducted in-depth interviews with young people who have experience in research related to mental health, climate change, and public health. Our goal was to better understand how young people engage with research, how they benefit from it, and the roles they play in shaping solutions to today’s pressing health challenges.
